Expected to recover the trend of sole proprietorship of Beijing Meida Starbucks

The long-delayed Starbucks equity recovery in the Beijing and Tianjin markets will gradually become clear as Beijing’s biggest shareholder, Barack Obama’s largest shareholder, Xu Dalin, will be two weeks later. According to the earlier agreement between the two parties, the Starbucks will be able to recover 50% of Beijing Meidai. If it can successfully recover the remaining "reserve land" in the Chinese market, Starbucks is one step away from full direct operation.

In the early 1990s when Starbucks entered the Chinese market, it took the form of agency cooperation. In Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou, they chose Beijing Meida Starbucks, Shanghai Unistar Starbucks, and Maxim Starbucks and authorized them to develop the local Starbucks market. Although this development has saved the capital investment when the company was initially developed, it has gradually formed a situation in which Starbucks in each of the three places is fighting.

In 2003, Starbucks headquarters increased its stake in Shanghai Starbucks to 50%; subsequently, its share in Comax Starbucks rose from 5% to 51%. This time, Beijing Meida, which already has 60 stores in the Beijing-Tianjin region, has become Starbucks's last target.

As early as September last year, the first 10,000 branches of Starbucks were located in the Great Wall. Xu Dalin once said frankly that Beijing United States University is negotiating equity issues with Starbucks headquarters. If the negotiations are successful, H&Q Asia Pacific Ventures, which introduced Starbucks to the Beijing market, can withdraw smoothly.

Both sides are very cautious about the outcome of the negotiations. “Beijing Meidai’s investors are negotiating with Starbucks headquarters on equity purchases and maintaining high-level contacts. Beijing Meidai really wants to sell some shares.” Beijing Meidai Starbucks related person said yesterday.
