China's textile industry should shift from scale economy to value economy

This was the advocacy of Sun Ruizhe, vice president of the China Textile Industry Association, at the 2011 China Society of Textile and Apparel Industry Social Responsibility held in Beijing on June 28.

Sun Ruizhe said that the longer the cycle of production of textile production to the upstream of the industrial chain, such as garment production takes 6 months, fabric production takes 12 months, and yarn production takes 18 months. However, the more downstream, the greater the pressure to cope with the rapid consumer demand of consumers. This will inevitably lead to different operating modes at different ends of the industry chain. As the upstream industry, we must establish inventory for the normal production cycle. This is an inventory-based, planned production model. Through this inventory, the entire production and operation capability is formed. As the downstream of the industrial chain, especially in the apparel field, it is necessary to respond quickly to the market and it is based on the order-based production model. Although the operating mode of each end of the textile and garment industry chain is different, the specific needs are different. However, as the entire industry, because of interlocking, core values ​​and overall operating patterns are the same, which is the industry from the scale of economy to the value of the transition.

Sun Ruizhe believes that the textile industry needs to make four transitions. It is necessary to improve the operational efficiency of the entire supply chain system and enhance the mutual cooperation capabilities of the entire supply chain. It is necessary to increase upstream and downstream cooperation in the industry chain, improve industrial competitiveness through integrated innovation, and focus on brand building. More attention should be paid to orderly competition in the entire industry. To achieve orderly competition in the industry, it is very important to enhance corporate social responsibility.

The textile industry is an industry dominated by SMEs, with SMEs accounting for more than 99%. However, the textile industry leads in the construction of social responsibility. According to Sun Ruizhe, in 2005 the textile industry launched a Chinese textile corporate social responsibility management system. In 2008, the industry’s first social responsibility information disclosure guidelines “China's textile and garment corporate social responsibility report outline” was launched. Since then, many companies in the textile and apparel industry have issued social responsibility reports, and only 44 reports were published from January to June this year. Among the 44 companies that issued social responsibility reports, the top 500 industrial companies and listed companies accounted for 60%, and 41% of the non-listed companies also actively disclosed social responsibility information. This shows that the information disclosure and transparency of this industry The wind of integrity is gradually being implemented.

In previous years, the textile and apparel industry released social responsibilities, and the enthusiasm issued by brand owners and retailers was very high. Now, a very encouraging change in China is that companies that release social responsibility information are extending upstream. Now in the entire textile and clothing industry, not only companies in areas closely related to consumers are publishing social responsibilities, but the entire industry chain, including upstream companies, are publishing social responsibility reports. Sun Ruizhe also expressed his own regrets. This is a sub-industry with a relatively large environmental impact, such as dyeing and chemical fiber industries, and the number of companies that have released social responsibility reports needs to be increased.
